Description:(2',4',6'-Trimethyl)acetophenone is a precursor to 2,4,6-trimethylphenol. It is used in the synthesis of trifluoroacetic acid and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid as well as in the production of perfumes. Trifluoroacetic acid and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid are used for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, plastics, pesticides, and solvents. This compound is also important for the manufacture of certain dyes, such as those used in textile dyeing.
The iodination reaction with 2',4',6'-trimethylacetophenone is catalyzed by potassium iodide and acetic acid.
