Description:Tetraethylphosphonium hexafluorophosphate is a quaternary ammonium salt that is an ionic liquid. It can be used as a solvent in organic synthesis, and has been used in the synthesis of phosphonium salts and acetonitrile. Tetraethylphosphonium hexafluorophosphate is stable at room temperature, but decomposes when heated to 65 °C. The viscosity of tetraethylphosphonium hexafluorophosphate increases with increasing concentration. Tetraethylphosphonium hexafluorophosphate is also known to form mesoporous materials when activated with KOH or NaOH.
