It also prevents oxidative injury in liver cells caused by polyunsaturated fatty acids. 5-Hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-3,7-dimethoxy 4H-[1] chromen[2] -4 one has been shown to inhibit the replication of RNA viruses in tissue culture, as well as bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This compound also exhibits antimicrobial activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
