Description:N4-Benzoyl-2'-deoxy-5'-O-DMT-2'-fluorocytidine (BDF) is a novel phosphoramidate prodrug of cytosine that has been synthesized for use in antiviral therapy. It is a DNA chain terminator and inhibits viral replication by inhibiting the synthesis of viral DNA. BDF is activated to cytosine monophosphate (CMP) by phosphodiesterase enzymes and then converted to cytosine diphosphate (CDP), which inhibits DNA synthesis. The synthesis of viral RNA is also inhibited, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and cell death.
