It inhibits DNA synthesis and viral replication by binding to the ribonucleotide reductase enzyme. 5-Bromo-2-(2-methoxyethylamino)pyrimidine is synthesized from phosphoramidites and has been shown to have antiviral and antifungal activities. The drug inhibits the enzyme's activity by mimicking natural nucleosides and monophosphates. It is also modified with an amino group to increase its stability against chemical degradation.
