Additionally, phenothiazine is able to catalyze the conversion of amines to nitriles using hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant. This reaction occurs in two steps: first, hydrogen peroxide oxidizes the amine to an iminium ion followed by oxidation of the iminium ion to a nitrile.
