Description:ADAM10 is a protease that regulates the cell-surface expression of other proteins. ADAM10 cleaves the extracellular domain of membrane-bound proteins and releases them into the extracellular space. This protein has been shown to be important in the progression of Alzheimer's disease by regulating the processing of amyloid precursor protein (APP). ADAM10 is also expressed at the cell surface, where it may function as an enzyme responsible for cleaving glycerol from lipids. The human form of this protein has a molecular mass of 27 kDa and an extracellular domain with a length of 217 amino acids, with n-terminal sequence that starts at position 1. ADAM10 is soluble and consists of two domains: an N-terminal domain and a C-terminal domain.
