3-Acetyl-5-(4-fluorobenzylidene)-4-hydroxy-2(5H)-thiophenone is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme ATPase and prevents the breakdown of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to adenosine diphosphate (ADP). 3-Acetyl-5-(4-fluorobenzylidene)-4-hydroxy-2(5H)-thiophenone has been shown to increase the number of platelets in the blood, which could be due to its ability to stimulate release of cortisone from the adrenal gland. The drug combines with cyclooxygenase and inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, thereby inhibiting inflammation.

5-Bromothiophene-2-carbohydrazide is an oxychloride compound with antimicrobial activity. It has been shown to stabilize crystals of the molecule and to have a crystal structure that is similar to phosphorus oxychloride. Elemental analysis revealed that 5-bromothiophene-2-carbohydrazide contains only carbon, hydrogen, and bromine, which are all necessary for the antibacterial activity of this compound. The antibacterial properties of 5-bromothiophene-2-carbohydrazide have been tested against fungi and plasmodium, which are parasites responsible for malaria. 2-(Thiophen-2-yl)-1,3,2-dioxaborinane is a boron compound that can be used as an emitter to produce light in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). 2-(Thiophen-2-yl)-1,3,2-dioxaborinane has a high quantum efficiency and a high yield.
