It is an alkanolamine that can be synthesized by the reaction of piperazine with hydroxyethylamine. In addition, N,N'-Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine has been shown to have biological properties such as being able to stimulate the production of antibodies and citric acid in animals. It also has structural similarities to vitamin B12 and exhibits hydrogen bonding between its molecules. N,N'-Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine is biodegradable and does not produce significant environmental effects when released into water or soil.
