It is used in biosynthesis as a chaperone that helps to stabilize the amino acid sequence of proteins. This reagent is also used in stereoselective synthesis, and catalysis. The immobilized form of [2-(1H-Pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl)ethyl]amine hydrochloride can be used for the production of monoterpenoid indole alkaloids, such as strictosidine synthase. This compound has been shown to have nucleophilic properties that are useful for wittig reactions.
