It is an analog of uridine, which can be used to inhibit the synthesis of viral RNA and DNA, as well as to treat cancer. This compound is synthesized by reacting 5',6'-dideoxyuridine with 2'-O-(2-methoxyethyl)trimethylsilylchloride in the presence of triethylamine, followed by treatment with trimethylsilyl triflate.
